1. How do I check if the UKI.NET name I want is available?
Simply type in the name you want in the UKI.NET Name Search box and press submit. If the name is available the results will take you to the purchase page. If you do not wish to purchase straight away or want to check some other names, simply press the back button.

2. Can I choose any UKI.NET domain name?
You can choose any UKI.NET domain name with the following exceptions;
- No other company or individual is currently using the name
- The name is not a blatant infringement of another company's trade name or intellectual property
- The name is not offensive, racist, etc

3. Can I have a generic UKI.NET domain name or does it have to be my company name? You can choose a generic domain name - in fact this can be a great marketing tool as the name will be easy to remember and reflect your industry.

4. Can I have more than one domain name pointing at my UKI.NET web site? Yes. You can register other UKI.NET domain names to point at the web site for £25.00/annum each. |

5. What happens if I choose a name and later get into trouble with another company?
While we take steps to ensure this does not happen by not allowing blatant intellectual property theft, if this does happen we cannot be held responsible for any legal action. In our terms and conditions, it states that you will indemnify us against your use of another company's name or trade name. Please note; this is very unlikely if you register your company name or a generic industry name (estateagents.uki.net, legalservices.uki.net etc).

6. Can I "re-sell or transfer" my UKI.NET service to another company or individual? Yes. Provided we receive a letter on your company letter headed paper stating that you wish to transfer the service (we need full details of the other company and a letter from them accepting the transfer and what level of service they require). The other company will then be required to pay the billing for their desired service. You may re-sell the UKI.NET service for any price you wish (however, we advise great caution on buying UKI.NET names and re-selling them, unless they are generic domain names). |

7. What actually is the UKI.NET domain name?
Your UKI.NET domain name (such as yourcompany.uki.net) is actually a sub domain created from the uki.net domain name. Your UKI.NET domain name will work the same as any other domain name. The UKI.NET domain name is owned and operated by Web Focus Limited (UKI.NET is a trading style of Web Focus Limited). We are unable to offer DNS forwarding on UKI.NET domains. All services need to be hosted on the UKI.NET server. |

8. Do I own my UKI.NET domain name?
No. However, you have the right to use this name permanently as long as you pay the annual renewal fee for the domain name. A good example for the use of the domain name would be your telephone number. Your telephone number is assigned to you by BT, NTL, Orange etc and you can use this number as long as you keep the account and pay the bills. As with the telephone company, it is very much in mutual interests to continue to provide a reliable service.

9. How long has UKI.NET existed?
This service has been used since 1997. Over the years we have refined the service and continued to offer extra features. |

10. Can I stop using the UKI.NET system and design my own web pages in html?
Yes. We can convert your UKI.NET domain/web site into a Virtual Server with password protected FTP access on our server. Please see our price list for details. If you wish to host elsewhere, we can web forward your UKI.NET domain name and forward your email to another email address. However we do not offer DNS forwarding to another ISP. |

11. How do I pay?
You pay online by credit card when you sign up for instant access. Companies may also pay by sending us a cheque with their order. The annual renewal invoice will be sent out to you and this can be paid for by credit card or cheque. |

12. Do you offer a free trial?
Quite simply – No!
If you are unhappy with the UKI.NET service, we will offer a full, no quibble refund if this is requested within 14 days from the UKI.NET service going live. This does not include any premium services such as labour (scanning in your logo), credits, domain name registration etc these services are not subject to a refund. See our terms and conditions for full details. |

13. I already have a .co.uk or .com domain name, can I use this?
Yes. However, we need the domain name to be on our server. We can register the .co.uk or any other domain name for you (see
price list) or if you have already registered a name elsewhere, you have two options.
Option 1/.
The other company continues to look after the technical and billing control for the domain name, but changes the "DNS Entries" for the domain name. So that the "address" for that domain name is allocated to our server. Simply contact the company (or agent) that registered the domain for you and ask them to change the primary and secondary DNS to the following;
Primary = ns.rackspace.com
Secondary = ns2.rackspace.com
Once this has been changed, there is a period of between 12 and 36 hours while the new address propagates around the internet. This is a simple procedure and most companies should do this quite quickly for you (they may make an admin charge for doing this).
Option 2/.
The technical, billing and admin control is changed over to us, so that we have complete control of the domain name. We will then make the DNS Entries change and we will invoice you when the domain name needs to be renewed (each 2 years). For .co.uk domain names, you have to ask the company or agent that registered the domain name to change the "IPS TAG" to UKI-NET. For .com / .net domain names, we will make a request for control of the domain name and the company or agent that registered the domain will have to allow the request to proceed (you must inform them that we are making the request beforehand). There may be an additional 1 or 2 years billing to be paid when the request is made when taking control of a .com / .net domain name. How smooth these transfers go also depends upon the Registrar that originally created the domain name (unlike .co.uk domain, who have one Registrar called Nominet, there are many different Registrars for .com / .net domain names).
Conclusion:
If you are happy with the company that registered the domain name for you and their renewal charges are reasonable, it is very often quickest and simplest to go for option 1 above. As long as the DNS Entries point at our server, we have complete control over all web hosting and email options. If you are unhappy with the company or are worried they may not be in business in the future, then it is best to transfer everything to us. Please note; if you wish to transfer away from us in the future, we do not have any hidden charges and will not charge you a transfer fee.
Companies handle DNS changes and transfers in their own ways, it is best to contact the company and ask what their procedure is. If you are unsure of whom the contact is, then a WHOIS check should provide enough detail to track down the correct contact. If you need any help, please contact us and we will advise you.
Please note: With the above, we must be aware of what email set up you require. When the DNS is transferred, your email will require setting up again, this is a simple technical procedure.

14. Where does my UKI.NET web site actually live?

15. I have purchased a UKI.NET package, how do I set up my web site?
You will be given a user name and password. You need to click on the 'Client Login' button (found on the homepage of this site) and enter your user name & password to gain entry to the UKI.NET admin centre. If you cannot remember your username and password, contact us or your reseller. |

16. I have Hotmail or another email service, can I use this?
Yes. When you set up your UKI.NET web site, click on the email options link and put in your email address. All the mail for anynames@yourname.uki.net domain name will automatically forward to your Hotmail account instantly. If you change your email service, simply put in your new address and the mail will forward to that. Please allow 10 minutes for the new setting to take effect. Full details are available in our support centre. |

17. I don't have any email, what do I do?
Your UKI.NET service comes with POP3 Email Mailbox/s. To enable this, contact us and we will send you the details and instructions to set this up on your Outlook or Outlook Express program. |

18. Can I access my mail away from the office using any computer?
Yes. There is a link from the admin section. Simply put in your username and password and you can view any mail in your mailbox and reply to it or send new emails. This service is designed for occasional use away from your office; we recommend that you have a permanent email client such as Microsoft Outlook to use for your main email communication. Please note; this service only works if you have a POP3 mailbox set up with us. |

19. Should I purchase direct from UKI.NET or from a Reseller?
It should not make any difference. There are 2 types of reseller;
Introducers
An introducer is credited with commission for every sale we make from their referral. We deal directly with the client after the initial introduction. The introducer will continue to receive commission for each purchase made by the client including renewals.
Reseller
UKI.NET Resellers will have all the contact with you and many times will offer other related IT services (such as IT support for your business). Please note; for your piece of mind, if your reseller goes out of business or does not send out your renewal, we will contact you before suspending any services. If you are not happy with your service from a reseller or from UKI.NET directly, let us know straight away.

20. I purchased through a reseller, but wish to change them?
If you have a problem please approach your reseller in the first instance. You can change your reseller or deal direct with us. Simply fax through a note stating this on your letter headed paper to 024 7665 0885, please give us the reason for your request. |

21. What should my reseller charge for services?
They should charge our standard rates for the basic services, if they are promoting these as an UKI.NET service. But they are free to charge whatever their normal rates are for additional services, such as help with writing your copy and graphic design etc. |

22. What level of support do I get?
If there are any issues affecting your web site or email which is system related (i.e. web site offline), this will be dealt with straight away and treated as an urgent support issue.
Our standard support level (included with all UKI.NET packages) for questions relating to user issues is email only. Whilst we endeavour to answer support issues straight away, during busy periods we will reply to your request within 4 hours.

23. I need more than just email support, what can I do?
After purchasing your UKI.NET package you can purchase credits that can then be used for telephone support, custom work or technical assistance if required.
Credits can be purchased at anytime, take a look at our features page or price list for more information about using credits. If you have purchased your UKI.NET package through a reseller, we would advise you to contact them in the first instance. While we endeavour to answer support issues straight away, during busy periods we will reply to your request within 4 hours.

24. Can I move my UKI.NET web site to another hosting company?
No, your UKI.NET enabled site must be hosted with us because our content management system does not allow UKI.NET web sites to work on another server. Hosting is included in the price of all of our packages.
However, it would be a simple matter for any web designer to copy the content and re-create the style. You own all the images and text, which you can copy and take wherever you wish. We are unable to provide you with copies of your web site (including content), please keep a copy of the text, images etc used on your site for future reference.
If your UKI.NET name was set up with a Virtual Server, your web pages can be transferred to most other hosting solutions. We can only offer a web forwarding service for the UKI.NET domain name which is £25.00 per annum if required.

26. Can I incorporate the UKI.NET system into an existing web site?
Yes. In fact the UKI.NET system can be used very effectively as a content management system for an existing web site - either one or two sections or the entire site.
To do this, you need to purchase a UKI.NET package with the required number of pages, we set it to just display content (no header or menu displayed) and these pages are then embedded into your existing web pages (which we can do for you or your existing web designer can do it).
